Solomon Boakye-Yiadom, PhD, P.Eng.

Dr. Solomon Boakye-Yiadom is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, York University. Prior to joining York University in 2017, he was an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Department of the University of Waterloo. His education and training spans materials science, mechanical, biomechanical and aerospace engineering. Dr. Boakye-Yiadom received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 2015 and BSc in Aerospace Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. His research interests are in the processing and characterization of advanced materials, microstructural tailoring of structural materials, microstructural characterization of deformation behavior including fracture behavior of materials under extreme loading conditions, transmission electron microscopy and microanalysis, advanced manufacturing techniques including metal-based additive manufacturing, impact biomechanics and finite element method simulation of deformation behavior. He has received several awards including the prestigious Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada's (NSERC) Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship and Edward R. Toporeck Graduate Fellowship in Engineering.

Solomon Hanson Duntu, PhD.(2018-2022)

Mr. Solomon Hanson Duntu received his BSc Degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana (2012-2016). He is currently a graduate student at the mechanical engineering Department, Lassonde School of Engineering, York University. He has experience in both teaching and research as a service personnel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He tutored in courses from first year to third year for a period of one year during his service. He was tasked with taking third year students through basic MATLAB and assisting final year students in their research projects. He also tutored second years in materials characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD) and strength of materials. He also aided in other researches for the department of materials engineering - KNUST such as the Microstructure Analysis of Steel balls used for grinding ores in the Mining industries. He is familiar with programming and graphing softwares such as MATLAB, Origin Graphing Tool and Solid Edge. He also served as a committee member and a mentor in the maiden edition of Cygnus Engineering Camp, a summer camp organized by the College of Engineering (KNUST) in August 2017 for Senior High School Students.

Francis Tetteh, PhD.(2018-2022)

Mr. Francis Tetteh received his BSc Degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana (2013-2017). He is currently a graduate student at the Mechanical Engineering Department, Lassonde School of Engineering, York University. He has experience in both teaching and research as a service personnel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He tutored in courses from first year to third year for a period of one year during his service. He was tasked with taking third year students through Computer Applications (MATLAB) and tutored in third year strength of Materials and assisting final year students in their research projects. He also tutored second years in Materials Characterization Techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD, AAS, XRF, and OM), Strength of materials and Environmental Science and tutored first years in Principles of Materials Science. He also assisted in XRD results analysis using MDI Jade Software for undergraduate final year Project Students in the Department of Materials engineering, KNUST and led final year students for a week field trip (Industrial visits to Materials Processing Companies at Tema Industrial Area). He is familiar with MDI Jade for XRD data Analysis and also with programming and graphing softwares such as MATLAB and Origin Graphing Tool. He was a Member of the 2017/18 worldwide XPRIZE International Water Abundance Competition research team from Ghana. He also served as a committee member and a mentor in the 2017 edition of Cygnus Engineering Camp, a summer camp organized by the College of Engineering (KNUST) for Senior High School Students. Francis received College of Engineering, KNUST Best and Excellent Student’s Awards of his class in his 2nd and 3rd year’s undergraduate studies. He was Rotaract Club KNUST Vice President in 2016/17 year and student leader (Head Boys Prefect/ SRC President) in his Senior high school and represented his SeniorHhigh school in the Ghana National Math’s and Science Quiz in June 2013.

Niyousha Azgomi, MSc. (2018-2020)

Niyousha obtained her Bachelor science degree in Mechanical Engineering with the focus of Fluid Mechanic from Guilan University, Iran in 2014. Her final thesis project in bachelor was the heat transfer in a natural draft dry cooling tower. Niyousha as well joined Seneca College, Canada in 2016 to improve her knowledge in Solid Mechanic designing software “SolidWorks”. She joined York University in January 2018 as a master student and her research focus is on improving wear properties of Titanium alloy used in hip implant by the use of heat treatment. She has extensive experience in various material characterization techniques (SEM,XRD,Optical Microscopy,Profilometry,AFM) She has been involved in Industrial Projects of various forms,some of which are still in progress.

Joseph Agyapong, MSc. (2018-2020)

Mr Joseph Agyapong, an alumnus of Mfantsipim School hails from the Ashanti Region of Ghana in West Africa. He completed his pursuit for a Bsc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana in 2017. He is currently a graduate student at the Mechanical Engineering department, Lassonde School of Engineering, York University. He has an experience in both teaching and research as a service personnel in the position of a teaching assistant at the KNUST where he also tutored in courses designated for the first year through to final year for a period of one year. He has also established and exposed himself to Material Characterisation techniques as well as Mechanical Characterisation techniques and the available experimental setups associated with them. He has also familiarised himself with most finite element analysis tools and computational modelling techniques.

Ali Eliasu, MSc (2018-2020)

Mr. Ali Eliasu received his BSc Degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana (2010-2014). He is currently a graduate student at the mechanical engineering Department, Lassonde School of Engineering, York university. He has experience in both teaching and research as a service personnel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He tutored in courses from first year to final year during for a period of three years. He was solely tasked with taking third year and final year students through the use of computer aided design and manufacturing practical sessions. He has worked with a lot of students from the mechanical and other engineering departments on their final year projects. He aided in design calculations of components and engineering/CAD models of student projects. He is familiar with most simulation tools used in structural analysis. He also received honors diploma in computer networking form the National Institute of Information Technology, Ghana (2009-2010). He served as a team leader and led his team to troubleshoot various server role errors.
